Deb O'Brien

Children's Book Writer and Illustrator

Not very good. All the action is on the left hand side of the page, and nobody knew that the giant thing at the top was a paint brush.

This is a finished illustration. It's okay, but I know I can do better.

So I went back to the drawing board and did this:

I recently took a two-day watercolor workshop with the great E.B. Lewis.  He was generous with his vast experience of having illustrated over 70 books. At the end of the workshop, he gave us a one word assignment: LOST.

He told us to do a sketch and then a final painting and that we could submit them to him for critique. Here is an early sketch.
